golf tips and golf instruction - How to Achieve the Proper Golf Swing
golf tips and golf instruction - Golfers usually learn their golf swing
in one of two ways - either by trial and error, or by having lessons.
The failings of the first approach are obvious, although there is a
tendency for many to opt for this approach on the basis that they have
learned to play other sports in this way. However, golf is such a
difficult game to master that the only satisfactory route to success is
through lessons.
However, when practising at home, remember the following aspects. The
first and most important fact is that the golf swing is not in fact able
to be learned in one go. Instead, there are various components which
together form the swing. The two main components are those of the
turning of the body and the swinging of the arms.
Turning of the body: To have an effective swing, it is essential that
you turn your body in a near to horizontal plane. The plane needs to be
at right angles to the spine along the line of the shoulders.
Swinging of the arms: The arm swing is as nearly as possible aimed at
the ball. The body turns to allow the arms to swing, with the shoulders
remaining as relaxed as possible so that the whole upper torso moves in
one fluid movement.
Although in theory the combination of these aspects appears relatively
straightforward, in fact it is very hard to effectively integrate these
two movements. Within the golf swing itself, there are two main aspects
to concentrate on, those of the backswing and the downswing. As the
names suggest, the backswing is the section when the club is lifted to
the right of the body (for right handed golfers) from the starting
position, with the downswing being the time when the club is brought
down to make contact with the ball.
When making the backswing, the intention is for the club to move in a
circular orbit around the player. The body needs to be turned correctly
in order to make sufficient room for the club to progress in and up.
From the top of the swing, the downswing begins. The hips should be slid
from back to left, which tightens up the torso enabling you to have
more power as well as assisting the club to stay on track.
Overall, when professionally mastered, a golf swing appears to be one
fluid effortless movement. However, in reality, it is a complex
combination of the turning of the body and the swinging of the arms as
well as the backswing and downswing linking together. Golf is not an
easy game, but with practice and lessons, you will soon achieve a
reasonable handicap, making your game even more fun.
